General

·         Awareness Raiser: This term we are raising funds for EduDeo Ministries and The Pi Plan. We are raising money to help buy Raspberry Pi computers for schools in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Zambia. As a school, we are hoping to reach a goal of $1000 by next week Friday (Jan. 31). Kindergarten

·         Welcome back after a snow week! We are trying to get back into routines.

·         No K this Friday.

·         Look for a field trip form for next Friday when we go to Flip city

·         Still lots of wet socks - so please send extras.

·         Math: number 10

·         LA: Gg for goat, Hh for house with a chimney

·         Bible: Esther stories

Grade One

·         Welcome back! We are looking forward to a focused week.

·         Science: We are completing a Health Unit. We have been talking about being safe, when to call 911 and making healthy choices.

·         Please look for a field trip permission slip, we are off to Flip City this Friday! This is part of our gymnastics unit for P.E.

·         Memory work is Psalm 136:4

·         Language Arts: th, sh, ch, wh, . Sight Words: none, done

·         Bible: God shows His power in the plagues

·         Math: We were only able to do one math lesson last week! Hopefully this week is much better! Please look for a note home this week about Math Drills, which we will be starting very soon.

·         Art: The Colour Wheel

Grade Two

·         Hopefully this week proves to be a bit more “normal”

·         Bible: Jesus Miracles continue

·         Memory Work: Let’s stick with our verse from last week, not too many students knew it on Friday: John 6:35

·         Science: We are doing a Health Unit. This is a good time to talk about healthy food choices, being active and getting enough sleep.

·         Art: Shades and Tints

·         Math: Students will continue to practice borrowing when subtracting.

·         Social Studies: We will continue to look at Roles and Responsibilities.

·         ADST: We will be getting together with our grade 5 buddies this week for a new activity!

·         Please look for a permission slip to Flip City on Friday! This ties in to our gymnastics unit in P.E.

·         Language Arts Tools: al, all, 1-1-1 spelling rule. Sight words: much, such

Grade Three

·         Thanks to the snow, our week will look much like last week.

·         Bible: Israel travels to Sinai

·         Memory: We’ll continue to work on Psalm 80:1. Students who already knew it by last Friday get a free week.

·         Reading: Students will be reading chapters 3 and 4 in Sarah, Plain and Tall this week and completing their Reading Scavenger Hunts. - Mrs. Minderhoud

·         Writing: Cinquain poetry

·         Spelling: This week’s CORE words are paper, hard, near, sentence, better.

·         Math: Distributive property of multiplication. Once again, I encourage you to practice multiplication facts with your child. You could use flash cards or educational games such as those on arcademics.com.

·         Art: Watercolour

·         Social Studies: Canada’s provinces and capitals. By next Monday, students will choose a province or territory to study further.

·         P.E.: Fundamental movement skills: forehand strike

Grade Four

·         What a short week! I hope everyone enjoyed last week’s snow days. Due to the snow days, our schedule hasn’t changed much.

·         Memory Work: Hymn 83:1 (due Fri. Jan. 24) and Psalm 122:1 (due Fri. Jan. 31)

·         Bible: We will have a Bible test on Monday (today). We will be starting our Solomon unit tomorrow.

·         Math: We are working on multiplying 10s, 100s, and 1000s this week.

·         Reading: We are reading chapters 11-13 of The Cricket in Times Square this week.

·         Writing: We are working on the rough drafts of our final project this week.

·         Science: We will be talking about the seasons, plant and animal responses to the seasons, and the phases of the moon.

·         Health: We are working on our “Healthy Plate” project.

·         Art: New Year Pop Art (due Wed. January 22)

·         PE: Reminder to bring a gym strip to school for PE days (Tuesday & Thursday).

Grade Five

·         Hopefully you all had fun in the snow. Now…. back to work.

·         Memory: Ps. 107:15. This is the same as last week.

·         Church History: Martin Luther’s work.

·         Writing: Research report about a career.

·         P.E.: Gymnastics. Please remind your son/daughter to bring P.E. clothes to school on Tuesdays and Fridays.

·         Socials: Immigration. Test on Tuesday.

·         In relation to our study of immigration, this Friday grade 5 hopes to enjoy a potluck lunch. Each student is asked to bring a little serving of food from a country of their choosing. (enough for about 3-4 people). Not too much please! Please keep this simple. Thanks.

·         Bible: Jesus is anointed by a sinful woman; The storm stilled; Demons Cast Out; Jarius' daughter raised

·         Math: Decimals - adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.

·         Reading: Number the Stars - It's such a suspenseful book!

·         Science: Plate tectonics, volcanoes, layers of the earth; TEST on THURSDAY

·         French: Putting sentences together

·         Computers: Typing Practice

Grade Six

·         Memory Work: Psalm 91 V1

·         Math: unit on decimal numbers will be completed. There will be a quiz on Friday on the rest of the unit.

·         L.A.: we will continue to study the Breadwinner.

·         Drama production: it will be taught by Mr. Jerry Scholtens.

·         Computers: Typing Club.

·         Science: will start a new unit on forces.

·         Art: foil figures.

·         P.E.: gymnastics. Please remind your child to bring a PE shirt, shorts/pants, and shoes for indoor sports.

·         Current Event: Monday – Devon, Wed – Jacob, Fri - Emma

·         Bible: There will be a Bible test on Tuesday, and we will start a new unit on the book of Levi.

·         Lunch time devotion schedule: Mon – Emma, Tue – Kaylee, Wed – Liam, Thur – Austin, Fri – Own

Grade Seven

·         Memory Work: Psalm 62:1 (due Friday); Psalm 33:18-19 (due next Friday)

·         Bible: We will complete our unit on King David with a small in class assignment this week. We will then begin a unit on the Anglican Church in Church History.

·         Reading: This week we hope to start reading our novels and completing our first meeting on Tuesday.

·         Writing: We have begun our next unit on Biographical Writing. We will complete our research and begin organizing our information into paragraphs this week.

·         Math: Working with circumference and area of circles.

·         Science: Our Chemistry Projects are due Tuesday morning, and presentations to Grades 1 and 2 will happen Thursday afternoon.

·         Computers: Tinkercad competition entries due Monday

·         Art: Colour Wheels are due Friday; Coat of Arms research is also due Friday

·         Current Events: Jacob (Tuesday), Josh (Wednesday), Ryan (Thursday)

General

·         We're thankful for continued safety on the roads. Please accept our apologies for the late notice yesterday about Monday's school closure; our goal has been and will continue to be to have a notice on the website by 6:30 am if the school is going to be closed. Any time that CCES is not going to be open, we'll be sure to have a notice up on our website as soon as possible. Pray for continued traveling mercies for all on the wintery roads.

·         In the event of school closure on Wednesday, our Spirit Day will be postponed to the next school day that we are in operation.

Grade One

·         Grade one day off this week Thursday.

·         Math: We will be finishing our Addition Strategies booklet and discussing which strategies work best. This week we will also be starting our daily math drills. Look for a letter coming home to explain.

·         Art: Secondary Colours

·         Bible: Moses is called to lead the people, God shows his power in the plagues.

·         Language Arts: SW: none, done. Tools: sh, ch

Grade Two

·         Math: Students worked hard last week as they repeatedly practiced the regrouping when adding concept and this week they will be moving on to borrowing when subtracting.

·         Social Studies: Students will brainstorm ways to demonstrate perseverance and responsibility in their roles at home, school and local communities.

·         Art: Shades and Tints

Grade Three

·         Math: Basic multiplication facts. Now is a great time to begin quizzing your child on multiplication facts to 10x10. The website arcademics.com has several great interactive games to help, such as Grand Prix Multiplication.

·         Social Studies: Canada’s provinces and capitals. By the end of next week, students will choose a province or territory to study further.

Grade Four

·         We are looking forward to our field trip to HR MacMillan Space Centre on Friday. Thank you to those who are volunteering to drive us!

·         Memory Work: Psalm 7:1 (due Fri. Jan. 17) and Hymn 83:1 (due Fri. Jan. 24)

·         Bible: We will have a Bible test on Thursday to finish up our King David unit.

·         Math: We hope to begin our new unit on Multiplication today.

·         Reading: We are reading chapters 9-12 of The Cricket in Times Square this week.

·         Writing: We are beginning our final project for our unit this week.

·         Science: We will be talking about the seasons, plant and animal responses to the seasons, and the phases of the moon.

·         Health: We will discuss healthy eating and review the Canada Food Guide. We are working on our “Healthy Plate” project.

Grade Five

·         Drama production: it will be taught by Mr. Jerry Scholtens.

·         Science: there will be a plicker activity on the chapter of mixture on Wednesday. We will start a new unit on forces.

·         Art: foil figures.

·         P.E.: gymnastics. Please remind your child to bring a PE shirt, shorts/pants, and shoes for indoor sports.

·         Current Event: Monday – Devon, Wed – Camia, Fri - Jacob

·         Bible: There will be a Bible test on Friday on the unit we are currently learning.
